About Pycleium

The word "Pycelium" is a portmanteau of "Python" and "mycelium". Mycelium is the main form of fungal organisms that produce mushrooms; to grow, all that is required is a suitable substrate and two compatible spores, and then the rest grows by itself without any central coordination. The idea of Pycelium is like mycelium: all it should require for a distributed application to run is two or more nodes, and the rest should take care of itself automatically. And because the Python language is relatively easy to read and understand, it is the language of choice for the project.

Required reading for understanding Pycelium is the Cypherpunk Manifesto. To make a rough analogy, if the creative vision is a photo, the Cypherpunk Manifesto is in the photo, but it is a family photo and not a portrait. Centralized institutions have too much control over data and the flow of information, and the primary goal of Pycelium is to rectify this situation: data should belong to the people who create and use it. Toward this end, an assortment of FOSS projects and packages are being developed that will enable maximally decentralized applications without the typical web3.0 crypto bullshit grift.
